Powerful Optical Analysis Tools for Advanced Trouble Shooting
The LumaCon is an accurate and consistent tool for verifying optical performance according to established specifications.
The LumaCon was developed in cooperation with manufacturing, rental and service companies to meet the need for efficient lens evaluation. By using the principle of peak image contrast detection (converted to digital information), accurate and repeatable measurements may be taken. Such measurements are free from individual bias or the effects of fatigue. The requirement for accurate, repeatable measurements and expanded functionality on a single platform are thus met in the LumaCon.
The LumaCon provides simplified usage for maintenance operations, plus the flexibility of additional advanced features when required. On one system, users can measure back focus at infinity, confirm or create focus scale marks at most distances, and trouble-shoot optical faults.
The LumaCon linear collimator consists of three main parts:
An optical bench with illuminated test targets
This optical bench is responsible for the actual measurements. It compromises a computer controlled illuminated test target, position sensors, a collimator lens, interchangeable lens mount standards and an electronic detector.
Due to its compact size and low weight the optical bench is portable.
Control the optical bench and user-interface
The LumaCon's proprietary software is responsible for control of the optical bench via touch screen user-interface, optical calculations and report generation.
One of the design goals was to develop a system that is equally usable by trained optical engineers and maintenance personnel. The software-controlled solution removes subjectivity from judging back-focus and other routine tasks. The LumaCon delivers objective digital measurements by sensing peak image contrast.
An included focal-plane microscope attachment and special fault-detection targets allow a deep look into optical alignment, and air-spacing, for advanced lens trouble-shooting.
For trained engineers, the LumaCon offers expert fault analysis tools, with additional test targets and a focal plane microscope with powerful magnification. Serious lens defects such as coma (decentered optics), spherical aberration (sometimes caused by faulty spacing of elements) and astigmatism can be quickly detected, thus reducing trial and error in lens repair.
